Sikh philosophy that preaches band band katva dena for

Turban i.e. Honour-I, II, III & IV

Turban an important part of dress of Sikhs religiously
Balbir Singh Sooch, Advocate, Ludhiana*

To remain quiet on very offensive and objectionable action, always to be taken suspiciously and understandably as a guilt on the part of those having sympathy with the victims as is also the case of prohibition of headgear i.e. Turban, an important part of dress of Sikhs religiously and otherwise as a sign of self dignity of each individual concerned, in France for Sikh school children and elsewhere.

Sikhs can not be equated with others on the issue to generalize the painful action as it is like asking Sikhs to forget about their religion so far France should be seen in this case. If it is really so then it is purely a wrong and unjustified message violating all international norms and values prevailing so far or being agitated to that must prevail in each case and for every one for justice in the present World!

It is not an innocent act on the part of government of France in the matter and is being questioned seriously since long but all in vain for the reason, without having any ambiguity that Sikhs basically belong to a country that has no say among the strong nations of the World. In fact, India is very suspect in all respects in eye of the World community especially regarding to be insincere to her own people in every field.

It is worth mentioning here that the following are excerpts from a statement by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2007, which is already being circulated:

“Attachment to one’s faith, to one’s language and culture, and to one’s way of life, thought and belief – all this is natural, legitimate and profoundly human…To deny that is to sow the seeds of humiliation. A ‘clash of civilisations’ will not be averted by forcing everyone to think and believe alike; cultural and religious diversity must be accepted everywhere and by all.” See: ‘Turban, a matter of pride and honour’ Editorial: The Tribune, Wednesday, January 23, 2008, Chandigarh, India.

All understand that head covering with a ‘Turban’ is very significant and respectful for human beings historically and it is special for Sikhs religiously as per their religious ethics and morals. As earlier supported and said by the Sikh Vichar Manch that Turban stands for Equality, Liberty, & Justice and the time may come that all human beings shall feel honored to make it a compulsory part of their dress like Sikhs.

The protests by all those who supported silently the genocide of Sikhs in India are being taken non-seriously by government of France for the reasons of maltreatment of Sikhs since long even in India. Though Indian state has provided non-violent elements a certain space to function, issue pamphlets, organise seminars and thus deliberately ignoring them. In fact, it is generally known that many of these so called panthic organisations are routinely used by the police to issue statements......In many cases, the press hand-outs are prepared by the police and merely distributed to the selected media in their name for glorifying them.

The Sikh Vichar Manch strongly protests against the offensive and objectionable action of government of France for prohibiting headgear i.e. Turban to Sikh school children and hope for the best that better sense shall prevail without any need of further drawing the kind attention of international community for justice to Sikhs in the matter.

With regards to all

Please do not mix too many things (Subjects) if you want to talk or write about turban, stick to the issue than going all over. Below are your statements that are not suitable for the turban issue. Trying to shed light on other issues while talking about a particular issues, agitate the readers, and you lose support for the cause, and people start going in different directions.

These statements just do not make sense:

(1) Sikhs basically belong to a country that has no say among the strong nations of the World.
(2)
India is very suspect in all respects in eye of the World community especially regarding to be insincere to her own people in every field
(
3) that all human beings shall feel honored to make it a compulsory part of their dress like Sikhs.
(4) The protests by all those who supported silently the genocide of Sikhs in
India are being taken non-seriously by government of France

(5) panthic organizations are routinely used by the police to issue statements......

I don't get the time to read all of your mail (letters) but since this was on turban, I opened up.
When you write, please become a reader at the same time, and develop feelings as a reader before you Finnish talking about the issue. You will start correcting yourselves, and will come up a very focused and productive result (outcome).

Turban is not religion for us, it is our dress code. Religion is doing Nitnem, Ardas etc, and living up to the principals laid out in Shree Guru Granth Sahib. I will even go a step further, and will say, that for Sikhs religion is a way of life. Guru Nanak Dev ji disliked organized religion to begin with, "Na hum hindu na musalmaan alah ji ke pind paraan". Guru Gobind Singh ji's definition of Khalsa is very broad, but it revolves around, "Jaagat jot japay nisbasur, ek bina man nak na----

The Entire Khlasa panth is authorized and bestowed with the leadership role to modify ANY thing, and Sarbat
Khalsa was the process given to talk about these issues. (simple commonsense)

We all support Sikhs, those who wish to wear turban as a dress code . No body has any right to stop them from doing so, making it a religious symbol, is heading in the wrong direction. First French made a mistake, and we don't need to follow them.

Sincerely
Amarjit Singh Duggal

Respected Amarjit Singh Duggal ji
www.saabt.com

I tried to point out and stress the short comings as to why Sikhs protests are not paid attention so far? But you felt offended and rightly and open heartedly expressed your mind which has to welcome as you are equally privileged to advise and say all.

You did not like my points causing discrimination even presently for the given reasons in the present World of justice where there is too much noise of providing justice to all especially by strong nations.

Anyway, it is good to point out frankly my weaknesses and the reasons of my immaturity from your angle. Whether I am convinced or not, is a secondary matter for the reasons of our different living environmental conditions and set up of mind as it is usual almost in every case of this nature? I never wanted to get trapped on a single isolated issue while protesting and highlighting the connected sufferings of Sikhs and Sikh nation. It is always my style of writing defensively and stress on the solutions along with the causes of our sufferings. You may call it my immaturity or other way around.

I kept a space while writing the submission for those who do not consider turban as religiously part of dress when I do write in the note……” otherwise as a sign of self dignity of each individual concerned”

Thanks for sparing your valuable time and energy to send the comments.

Waheguru jee ka Khalsa  Waheguru jee kee Fateh

There are lot of Articles and Books on Turban. As per the Sikh Reht Maryada (1945, SGPC), Turban is very much linked with Sikh Faith. A Sikh may have uncut long hair tress but still he will not dare to visit Gurduara Sahib or Darbaar Sahib without tying Turban. The importance and significance of the Turban for a Sikh is much more than King's crown.

Although Sant Sipahi Editor Mr Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba has been playing in the hands of RSS/BJP/Hindutva, he is also of the view that Turban is necessary for a Sikh as per his Book: Khoob Teri Pagree...published by Kes Sambhaal Parchaar

Sanstha, 54 L, Model Town, Jalandhar.

Earlier, people used to say "Pagree Sambhaal Jattaa, whereas now we should say - Pagree Sambhaal O Sikha".

Although Sant Sipahi Editor Mr Gurcharanjit Singh Lamba has been playing in the hands of RSS/BJP/Hindutva,

Who asked you to volunteer this information, and what this has to do with the turban issue. Why would we listen to your any argument, when you want us to read other stuff, which has no relevance to the turban issue.

May be this is Indian style, but it does not work in today's world, where people want to talk about a particular issue in it's entirety.
Sincerely
Amar
