By Balbir Singh Sooch, Advocate, Ludhiana

Today, after reading about the departure of the soul, I feel pained as to why God did not allow any time to share views with him about Sikh affairs? He looked as he was among the Sikh activists who understood the Sikh problem very closely in independent India. I do always remember him and his reaction since July 2, 2005, when he was the first man among the others who stood angrily and objected my critical views during a meeting of almost all struggling Sikh organizations in circuit house at Ludhiana.

Without doubting the integrity of Sardar Surinderpal Singh, I judged on that day from his serious reaction against my open views that he was the person who never liked and would have never been willing to hear criticism against the revolutionary forces to his mind in any manner.

The Sikh Vichar Manch did also send its views in a letter as a memorandum on July 7, 2005 to then the Governor of Punjab.

Sardar Surinderpal Singh’s views might have remained more positive than mine as I noticed. Coinciding to his views about the solution of Sikh problem, the Sikh Vichar Manch remembering and paying tributes to him on his untimely death by projecting its already expressed views as under:

India must be divided into independent segments to manageable size, keeping all other factors, aspirations and demands of the people in mind

The Sikh Vichar Manch wrote on October 21, 2006 in an article, “In the present circumstances and in view of the sense of so-called national unity and integrity, the ‘unmanageable population size’ and the injustice prevailing here, India must be divided into independent segments to manageable size, keeping all other factors, aspirations and demands of the people in mind. It is, therefore, all must pray its peaceful disintegration to avoid further continuing “bloodshed” in the name and under the false pretext of maintaining unity and integrity of India.”
